Sorry, but this is definitely a long one.
Well this was definitely an interesting night indeed. Very many ups and downs throughout the night, although the entire show was definitely an up.
Let me begin with the fact that I bought 4 tickets the day sales opened up. Last week, one of my friends bailed due to school work. A little bit sad, especially since we're all in college and he has more than enough free time to make up his work after the show. But a no biggie none-the-less. However, a day before the show, the second of three friends bails and I'm kinda getting a bit upset, but I do also know that a lot of people look for pairs of tickets, so I just kinda let it swing by. Lastly, literally 3 minutes before I leave for the concert, the last person bails on me and I'm really sad/upset at this point. I'm not too sure what hurt me most, the fact that I was completely ditched and had to experience the show a bit more lonely, or the fact that I'm now down $70 or so.
Anyways, it's just a little bit past 2PM, so I just decide to drive up alone (coming from San Diego). Surprisingly trafic wasn't too bad. About 2 and a half hours of a drive. Best one to LA for a concert in a long....time. It was a pretty difficult drive trying to avoid listening to Mute Math, especially when it kept jumping to their songs on shuffle. On the way, I called my dad and sister, who both live in LA and ask if they want to come, and I was able to get rid of the 2 empty tickets, which was nice. (They sat down at the upper floor of the Avalon). I got there around 5PM or so, and the line at the door wasn't too long, so that was definitely good. The person right in front of me also needed a ticket, so that was the last of all my spares now.
The wait in line until the doors opened went by incredibly fast. Most likely because the group that was right behind me was quite interesting and fun to chat with. We actually ended up standing pretty close togetherr during Eisley, but they got lost somewhere after they had finished and people moved around. I was also happy to meet one of my friends who attends college in the area in line. He was with his friend and they just kind of wiggled in line with me. The entire crowd was much younger than the San Diego show at the House of Blues last year.
Now, for the actual show...
Eisley started their set about 15 past 8. It was my first time ever hearing them. My friend who joined me had watched them a view times and told me it was going to be quite funny because the two bands are completely different. I had no idea how big of a contrast it would be until they actually started playing. They played for about 45 minutes to an hour. Definitely a good band, but I'm someone who enjoys a lot of energy out of bands. The funniest part about watching this band was every time they finished a song, the two main girls, and occasionally the third, would take turns saying "thank you." I thought this was the funniest thing, especially since they have really sweet voices.
Now onto Mute Math.
The show was absolutely amazing. A couple technical difficulties, especially during the song before "Break the Same."
I don't exactly remember the entire setlist in exact order, but this is what I can come up with that I remember. I tried to snag a setlist but they were all given away somehow without me even noticing...
Collapse
Typical
Chaos
New Song (someone will have to remind me of the title for this one)
Plan B
Control
Stare at the Sun
Obsolete
Noticed
Break The Same
Stall Out
Encore
You Are Mine
Peculiar People (This was an awesome surprise!)
Reset
I'm pretty sure that was it. The only thing that would've made the setlist better was if they added "Without It" and "Picture."
They were a lot of percussional breaks in the set. It was truly amazing. I always get massive chills whenever they do stuff like that. Everything is just so intense! The new song was quite a bit different than both their EP and LP. A bit more poppy, but still good. Paul actually played his guitar in this song (I believe a tele, but I forgot too. lol). Again, the two main highlights of my night were Darren and Roy. Those two are just truly amazing musicians. I've seen a lot of videos of Roy playing his fretless during "Stare at the Sun" and "Obsolete," but I've been lucky enough to see him bust out the stand up at both shows. There was one point in the show where Darren's headphones started falling off. I guess the duct tape doesn't quite help perfectly.
The one thing I was happy about coming alone to the show was the fact that I would have never been able to stay around the Avalon after the show ended. My friends have a tendancy of wanting to leave. During my nice stay until about 1AM in the Avalon, I got to talk with Roy and Paul. I had the chance to do this last year at the acoustic set, but was a bit more rushed and less personal, so this was definitely the best part of the night. I got both of their autographs on my ticket and will put pictures up when I get back home to San Diego.
Not too sure what else to put here for now, but maybe I'll add more later. It's more than long enough as it is right now anyways. _________________ Music Blog

The new song is called voices(in the silence) or clock work. I thought it was voices. I think no body is sure about the name because I saw these names both everytime.
Great to read this and view those pics. I really can't wait to see them live!!
Thinking about buying there dvd. Well tinking, I'm sure I'm going to buy it. So I can create my own live experience here at y room, lol.

Voice and Clockwork are two different songs I believe... if Paul was playing guitar I think it was probably clockwork.
Sounds like a great show man - very jealous you got to see Stall Out and Peculiar People, and the upright bass... both shows I've been to have been pretty short and very similar setlists, with I think the only difference being they played You are Mine the second time... also not had the chance to see any of the new songs live either! Can't wait for them to come around again and see what new stuff they've included in their live set. Despite playing the same songs both shows I went to have been very different. |

Hi, this is my first official post, hello everyone. I have recently started listening NONSTOP to the album and I think it's just fantastic and a perfect road trip record.
The Avalon show was a GREAT time. I was right in front of the sound board and so got COVERED with Silly String at the end. Did anyone see/participate in that?
Kind of random -- I was walking around just before Eisley started and saw Paul M. standing in the doorway chatting with someone. I appreciate the normalcy of that.
See you at the next show!

I was a maybe 10 feet away from all the silly string craziness...I honestly have no idea if I was covered in silly strong or not. For all I know, my hair was probably filled with it and everyone else was just kinda standing around laughing.
Glad to hear you really enjoyed the concert! I saw the bassist from Eisley walking around quite a bit, but he didn't seem to be in a very social mood. _________________ Music Blog

| Thanks! I was more worried about the sound board equipment behind me so I started helping the tech pick it out of the cables and board! Would NOT have wanted an outage due to Silly String! |

| At the 10/22/07 Norfolk show Paul called out the name of the new song as "clockwork". |
